Terms of Service

Short and plainspoken. Privacy details are on the Privacy Policy → page.

Who can use Yore

Yore is built for kids and their parents. Only an adult parent or legal guardian may create an account. For children under 13, we collect the verifiable parental consent required by COPPA before any child data is recorded. Adults using Yore on their own behalf (without a kid) is not what we built it for and is against these terms.

Account responsibility

You're responsible for keeping your password safe and for everything that happens under your account. If you think someone else has accessed it, email [email protected] and we'll lock it.

What we promise

  • Every character speaks only from primary sources we've curated — historical figures from their own writings, fictional characters from the books they appear in.
  • We never store voice recordings.
  • We show you every conversation in your dashboard (if you've consented to that).
  • We never share your kid's data with advertisers or data brokers.
  • Hard guardrails are always on: no PII questions, no keeping secrets from grown-ups, no instructions for harm.

What we don't promise

  • Yore uses AI. AI sometimes makes mistakes — a character may say something inaccurate or surprising even though we've grounded them in real writings. Yore is not a substitute for adult supervision, education, or expert advice.
  • Service availability — we aim for high uptime but don't guarantee 24/7 service. We'll email parents if we plan extended downtime.
  • Specific characters or features will exist forever. We may add or retire characters as the catalog evolves.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Try to extract personal information from characters about anyone
  • Try to bypass safety filters or impersonate other accounts
  • Share your account credentials beyond your immediate household
  • Resell access, scrape conversations, or use Yore as a model-training data source
  • Use Yore for harassment, spam, or any unlawful activity

Pricing

Yore is a paid subscription. The first 100 paying families get $99/year locked permanent (the founding rate). After 100 founding spots are taken, new members pay $119/year or $14.99/month — cancel anytime. The founding rate is for annual signups only; monthly subscribers don't count toward the 100 and don't lock a rate.

Trial: 7 days free. We charge $0.50 to verify parental consent — refunded immediately. After the trial, your selected plan ($99/yr, $119/yr, or $14.99/mo) charges through Stripe.

During the invite-only friend-pilot phase, families on the friend-pilot allowlist use Yore free forever — no charge, no Stripe customer record, never billed even after paid-launch opens. This is a separate tier from "founding family"; friend-pilot does not consume one of the 100 founding spots.

Cancellation, refunds, and termination

Cancel any time from Settings — no fees, no friction, no confirmation calls. Cancellation prevents the next renewal; you keep access through the end of the period you've already paid for.

7-day trial: cancel within the first 7 days and you pay nothing beyond the $0.50 verification charge (which is refunded the same day in every case).

Refunds after billing starts: we don't pro-rate partial periods after the renewal goes through. If something genuinely broke for you — extended outage, paid for a feature that wasn't available, etc. — email [email protected] and we'll make it right case-by-case. Founding-rate annual members can downgrade to the monthly plan any time (you'd lose the locked founding rate, not the data).

Account deletion is separate from cancellation. From Settings → Privacy you can delete your account entirely — that triggers a 90-day grace window (one-click restore from your inbox), then permanent deletion of every transcript, memory, and the account itself via our retention sweep. We can suspend accounts that abuse the service (rare, but we'll always email you first if it isn't an active safety issue).

Liability

Yore is provided "as-is." To the maximum extent permitted by law, Yore PBC's liability for any claim arising out of use of the service is limited to the fees you paid in the prior 12 months. This doesn't limit liability for things that can't be limited under law (gross negligence, willful misconduct, etc.).

Public Benefit Corporation

Yore PBC is a Delaware Public Benefit Corporation. Our charter requires us to weigh child wellbeing alongside profit when making product, pricing, and policy decisions — formally, not as a marketing claim.

Changes to these terms

We'll email parents 30 days before any material change.
